Autumn Birthday Party: Elise Turns 11

It's hard to believe our blue-eyed, animal loving, out-doorsy girl turned 11 a few weeks ago. Here she is with our new kitten, Leo. (We think our previous kitten was snatched up by an owl during the night). Leo loves to follow the girls down the road to get the mail- it's the cutest thing!

I'm so thankful for Elise. She is a wonderful big sister and a big help to our often chaotic family :)

Since we were still home-bound due to the little ones still getting over the whooping cough, we decided to have some fun decorating and making her birthday special. We chose an autumn/apple theme. Elise LOVES apples. She eats one before bed every night. Even though the rule is no eating after 9:00, she somehow manages to weasel an apple in after hours. After all, they're healthy, right?

We made an apple topiary centerpiece with items bought at Walmart. We placed the topiary styrofoam ball in a small pot and covered it with moss. We used a hot glue gun to add small apples and filled in the cracks with more moss.

Elise picked the menu. On top of the list was chicken-apple sausages with honey-mustard dipping sauce...

Fruit salad and homemade peach applesauce were also on the menu as well as lime & sea salt popcorn...

We used apples to make place-cards...

Black bean dip and tortilla chips

Homemade Lemonade served in pint-sized mason jars with straws. We sweeten our lemonade naturally with 100% white grape juice.

Giant sheets of paper make easy place-mats. Little pots of crayons make dinner time fun :)

I think she's wishing for a horse of her own!

Apple Cranberry Crisp with gluten-free oat topping for dessert- yum!

  1. Hey thanks a lot for these wonderful photos from Autumn Birthday Party. It has inspired me a lot. Those string lights on the table are looking absolutely fantastic. I have saved this blog for my sister who is planning a DIY party soon for her daughter at the garden inspired San Francisco venues. I am sure her inspirations would be highly useful.
